  1. It did for me!  I was really, really shy - like I couldn't even talk or look at people.  Then my friend asked me to try out for cheer with her, because she needed a partner for stunting.  So I said okay.  My parents later told me that they almost fell over dead when I told them I was trying out for cheer.  They couldn't imagine timid little me jumping and yelling in front of a crowd!  But I wasn't really thinking about making it - I was just helping out my friend.

Well, somehow I made it (my friend didn't =[ but that's another story).  And I'm so glad I did, because it helped me so much.  I guess being around the other cheerleaders - who are usually the extreme opposite of shy! - kind of rubbed off on me.  I saw how they could be bubbly and talkative and friendly, and I started trying to be like that myself.  And I found it wasn't so hard after all. I also got a lot of practice at it - people would come up and talk to me, and I didn't want to look like an idiot, so I was forced to talk back.  Eventually, I was able to approach other people and start a conversation - something I could never do before. The whole experience gave me a lot more confidence in myself.

So yeah... I don't know about anyone else, but being a cheerleader definitely helped me to come out of my shell!
