Question:

Does circumcision count as an uninsured medical expense, in regard to child support?

My son's father is responsible for 62% of my son's yearly uninsured medical expenses, AFTER the first $250 spent in a year. I am unsure if circumcision counts as an uninsured medical expense, because that alone was $250, so if it is, then my son's father is responsible for 62% of everything after that.

  1. Anything that your insurance doesn't pay is considered an uninsured medical expense.  Your insurance didn't pay $250 of the circumcission then he is responsible for 62% of everything else that the insurance doesn't pay.

  2. I am with Silly Nilly.

It is cosmetic, therefor no more a medical expense than a boob job.

  3. I think you are the only person who can answer that.  Well, here my personal situation is I am in the US and my insurance covers circumcision.  There is no out-of-pocket cost for me.  The only thing I am out, for my pregnancy, is $300.  Everything else it covered.  It should be based on your coverage.  But, I have read on these boards before though that other countries only allow circumcision if for medical purposes only, not just because it is what the parents choose to do (as here in the US).  I can't believe it only you cost $250.  My nephews was $800, lucky my sisters insurance covered his as well.

  4. Well, most insurance companies won't pay for it any more.  Since the American Academy of Pediatrics no longer recommends it, it is considered a cosmetic procedure like a boob job.  If you haven't done it and cost is a factor, don't do it because the father can probably successfully weasel out of it by saying he never wanted it done.

  5. that would be something to ask the judge or an attorney about but it is technically considered by most insurance companies to be a cosmetic procedure which is why they don't cover it so that may not count as a "medical expense" that is reimbursible.

  6. That depends on whether or not your INSURANCE declares it an uninsured item. If your insurance covers it, then its insured, if not, then it would be uninsured, so you really need to be on the phone with your insurance asking about your plan!   Then go from there.
