  1. Beer is worse.   The sugar in beer (Maltose) would be more fattening (because there is more of it).

Not all clear spirits are created equal.    Vodka and Gin would be lower in calories than Sambuca or Ouzo (clear sweetened spirits).

General rule of thumb is that unsweetened clear spirits have the least amount of calories.

  2. The lowest calorie cocktail you can drink is Bacardi and Diet Coke, it's got about 60 calories per serving.

Light beer will vary, generally costing you about 110 calories per serving.

  3. "Beer gut" is not necessarily caused by beer.  What you're referring to is properly known as Central Obesity.  There is no evidence that excessive consumption of beer or any other alcoholic beverage will always lead to central obesity.

There are a lot of factors that can contribute to central obesity, but generally, if you suffer from it your health is poor in one or more areas.

If your primary source of excess calories is beer, you could just as likely suffer from any  or all of the following: beer-butt, beer-thighs, beer-chin and beer-b*****s.  Likewise if your primary source of excess calories is potato chips.  Just substitute "beer" in the above list with "potato chip".

If you want to get rid of your beer gut simply expend more calories daily than you take in.

  4. No it does not in my case..i have always drank vodka and never got a beer gut! But it wont help you to get rid of a beer gut...to get rid of beer gut you have to eat healthy and exercise like 5 times a week.

  5. It does not have any effect.

    Beer is beer.

  6. It depends on your goal. If you're talking about pure caloric and carbohydrate content, then beer is going to give you that gut quicker than liquor. HOWEVER, you're going to get a gut anyway if you don't exercise and it's a h**l of a lot easier to exercise after a pint of beer than a pint of clear liquor!

  7. All things being equal.

The average beer has just a bit more calorie content than an equivalent amount of liquor. One shot = one beer for amount of ethanol-alcohol. So if you take straight shots you will consume less calories. But once you add mixers then the liquor contaning mixed drink contains more calories.

There is no residual maltose in beer. The carbohydrates in beer are from another source.

  8. Alcohol IS a sugar with all the calories of a sugar.

  9. Clear spirits are very low in calories. Fat free too. Its heavy drinks that will, like ale,red wine and guiness

  10. Yes, it is all the same it is alcohol.  If your going to get a gut from drinking it would not mader which it is.  I know some that only drinks beer and don't have them.  Then some that drinks liquor and have big guts.  It may be more your body then which one.

  11. The coloring in liquor or beer doesn't have any calories:)  ... I guess you'll have to drink light beer:) - and maybe exercise
