Does closing AC vents really save electricity?

I closed off the AC vent and closed the door to the guest room in our house since we never use the room. Does that actually save electricity or is that just a myth?

  1. If you have vents in the basement, close them.  That is cool air that will never reach the living area of the house.  Be careful not to cut off too much airflow, however since this may cause your evaporator to freeze up (and that's not efficient).

  2. I don't think so. If the A/C is running, it's using electricity.

  3. Yes it does save electricity.  By closing off areas of the house that you aren't using and closing the AC vent, you are reducing the load on your air conditioner.

  4. well it only saves electricity when u turn it off other wise it might save a bit not really that much

    hope that helps
