  1. Most often that insurance is borne by the shipping company.  How was the car shipped ? (the mode), was it shipped out of or into another country?

  2. Shippers are responsible to the amount insured. No insurance with shipper u can pursue with the insurance company.  They woulnt pay for damages but if you lost the car they would.

  4. Yes. It is best to talk to your Insurance Agent before the move. Tell him / her what shipping company you will be using, the pick up date and estimated date of arrival at the destination. Most shipping companies will handle damage claims such as loading & offloading, driver carlesness, etc. However some do not. Some require you to purchase extra coverage. If your Insurance Agent tells you that your insurance will cover these things, DO NOT purchase the extra insurance from the transporter. When getting quotes, ask the transporter what their insurance covers and if you will be asked to purchase extra coverage.

  5. Some policies have exclusions against certain items such as this.  Yet most of the time when you ship an expensive item you have to purchase extra insurance coverage.

I would definitely present the claim to your insurance and see if there's coverage.  If so, they'll go after the shipping company for you through subrogation.
