Costa Rica is a second world country....El Salvador is a third world country.

Costa Rica is pretty save because instead of having an army.....They have a pretty good civil Police department.

I think you will  be fine in Costa Rica.

First off, Costa Rica is not a "second world" country (as mentioned above), it is an obvious "third world" country (or developing nation as is now said. All of Central American countries, sadly, are developing nations, but nonetheless, all have their good and bad.

Gangs are not a serious problem in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama or Belize. The only countries in Central America with serious gang and crime problems are Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
