Does cranking up my big sound system in my car affect my MPGs?

I mean, the alternator is running at all times weather I use lots of power or not, right? Ive heard that turning the a/c gets you less mpgs, but what about cranking up my system??

  1. the ac is driven by a pump---when its off ,the pully free spins, when its on, the engine has to work to spin it,,you are good to go on the cranking it up.

    Having that big sound system? Yes, it does. All that weight reduces your MPG.
