also, my car will take off with cruise control (say I was just going 40mph and i hit a stop light then when it turns green, i can press a button on the steering wheel and it takes off automatically using the cruise control) does this save gas, or does taking off the "manual/normal" way use less gas?

  1. It almost always save more gas.

In general if you can accelerate slower than the cruise control, then you can save more gas by doing it yourself.  But when cruising it is hard to beat the cruise control.

    Good Luck...

  2. Well it's simple. Mantaining speed entirely is difficult. If you want to go 55 mph for example you will likely hit the gas and go faster then let it come down then hold your foot about halfway on the pedal to mantain speed until it begins to drop again. All of this up and down stuff wastes gas since acceleration uses more gas.

  3. It saves gas when cruising...get up to speed the old fashion way and then turn it on.

  4. Being on cruise control does save gas!

  5. I think cruise is more effective for long distance travel.

  6. I believe that cruise control saves gas only because your car is at a constant speed. And your not smashing on the breaks and then slowing down and going fast and slowing down, ect.
