I'm not planning on doing it. I just saw it on a movie recently and it's plagued my mind. It seems like it would have the same effect as swallowing it as long as its the same amount.

  1. Actually, yes you do get a 'high' when you sniff a prescription pain killer.  That is why certain medications such as Oxycontin are so popular with teenagers.  The Oxycontin is more potent when crushed and sniffed...but it can also be deadly when used in that manner so it is not recommended in any amount.

  2. the only form of drug i know that is sniffed through the nose would be K

a powder form of drug which is commonly called ketamine or cocaine,it makes one paranoid...

as for the pain killer it might have that opposite reaction, when sniffed it might cause irritations and headaches as pills like those are not created to be misused within large dosages,as we all know an overdose of any drug can or may cause serious health complications or even death...just stay off the curiosity of wanting to experiment...

  3. If you crush and snort Pain Pills.. Yes.. The high is more Intense it hits you ALOT faster and all at once.. But does not last as long as if taken orally.. I do not recommend crushing Prescription Meds...

  4. This has become common with oxycontin, the controlled release form of oxycodone (percocet without the tylenol), which is prescribed in relatively high dosages to be released over 8-12 hours to alleviate constant, chronic pain.  Crushing the tablet and snorting it helped it earn the nickname of "hillbilly heroin" since the method seemed to become popular in the Appalacian region.  Several physicians in Kentucky and Tennessee were heavily prosecuted for writing excessive prescriptions for oxycontin, which is a schedule 2 controlled substance, same as morphine.  There are two problems with the whole idea:

    1.  It isn't absorbed much more quickly than if the crushed tablet is ingested orally since the bioavailability of the chemical is relatively high and absorbed rapidly on an empty stomach

    2. it's wasteful, since there would would inevitably be some of the powder retained in the tissue near the introduction site as well as nasal hair and mucous (boogers)

Crushing a tablet and swallowing would probably be a more effective means of abusing the drug.  The manufacturer has been under pressure from the FDA and AMA to reduce the abuse potential by adding a narcotic antagonist to the compound which would be released only if the tablet were to be crushed, neutralizing the effect of the drug.  To date, I don't know whether this has been done.  As a means of "getting high" it's not recommended.  It's addictive and can be dangerous.

I'm kind of jaded about this since I take this medication for chronic pain, but don't feel any "buzz" and don't see it as a useful party drug.  In fact, its abuse has made

states tighten restrictions on its legitimate disitribution and I kind of resent that since many of us rely on it to function normally without being in constant agony.   If you're going to take recreational drugs, stick to marijuana.  It's safe (if you're not driving or making critical decisions or judgements), non-addictive, and yields a pleasurable high.  It should definitely be available as a medical alternative as well.

  5. i think no. through sniffing, the substance might just get into your respiratory system and kill you. Your nose might even be irritated. And, no doctor had ever advised me to to that. That movie is insane. LOL
