For example, some say that if things go always wrong for some people is because they are perhaps victims of a curse. What do you think?

  1. Yes, it is a real word.

  2. No. Curses are just another way to blame someone else for your own problems. They always have been, always will be.

  3. no. i don't think that's true.

  4. I'll answer this from a religious viewpoint as I'm a Christian.  Cursing is indeed very real.  Cursing can be done by a human, as well as directly from God himself.  In the Bible the very idea of death is a curse.  It came as consequence of Adam and Eve disobeying God's commands.  (Gen 2.17)

You'll also find in the Bible where God gives Abraham the ability to both bless and curse (Gen 12:3)

You find the story of a king who was facing the destruction of his nation and called a magician to curse his enemy and cause their ruin. (Num 22:5,6)

Later in the Bible you find the apostle Paul who actually curses a husband and wife who lie to the Holy Spirit and they die.  (Acts 5:5)

The power of cursing does not come from a human though.  The power is can only be used when given by a supernatural power such as God or Satan.   Biblically speaking, a curse isn't the ability to force evil on someone as it is simply the removal of God's blessings on someone's life and thus, without such blessings only evil will remain.

If this power was used to often in Biblical times, I can think of no reason why it still isn't a viable power today.  Nothing has changed that would make cursing suddenly unuseable.

  5. they existed together with the grace of GOD.those who believe in the name of JESUS christ receive grace from GOD but those who rejected him will remain in curse!the curse from this world is of lower class but they came from witchcrafts and other forms of black magic.

  7. Yes, there are curses, and specifically, generational curses that follow families. As to the origin of those curses, perhaps they are brought about by demons that have attached themselves to the family for generations and are well acquainted with the unique dynamics associated with those people.

And whether you believe in curses or not, all of us know someone with unusual patterns of events in their lives that make one wonder why this is happening to them.

In other countries among people who practice other religions, curses are very common. Christians believe that because of Jesus, no weapon, including curses,  that is used against us can succeed.

  8. In many countries curses are considered very real. Different religions have different views on this.  However, I don't believe that every little thing going wrong in ones' life can be blamed on a curse. Everyone has a bad day or even a bad month. Also, there are tons of good people who have horrible strings of bad luck, and have horrible things happen to them, who are not cursed. But specifically, if someone were to actually place a curse on you, I feel if you are a strong person and believe in God it will not work on you....or have very little effect. But if you really believe that you are cursed and feed into it, you will give it power. I would like to know if there is a curse on the Kennedy family!

And someone commented this question was inappropriate to ask in this section...BUT even though its listed under science and math.....the sub section we are in is "paranormal", which clearly would include curses.

  9. Ever heard the phrase that you only notice something when you're thinking about it?

Many times, when bad things happen wihout explaination, it is easy to dwell on them.  When one does this, one may continue to notice a seeming "increase" in bad things happening.  What is really going on is that the individually is becoming more sensitive o bad events, and possibly interpreting things as "bad" that they normally wouldn't!

In this way, the cycle can seem like a "curse".  Giving it a name merely reinforces the negative cycle.

  11. I do not know for sure, but if  people believe that prayers can heal and help people, then the reverse must also be true.

People have so many bad thoughts about other people that it is frightening to think about the effects this must have in the world.   That is why we should be aware of the thoughts that we are having about others, and not indulge in negativity, if it is possible.

  12. I'm beginning to think so.

  13. I think for people who believe in such things, they are very real.

  14. Curses do exist but you can overcome them.

  15. Yes they does. They exist and work really well in some places.Mostly in oppressed and impoverished lands.Where the people are uneducated, ignorant and superstitious.

  16. Curses have no power over anyone unless they give the curse power by believing in it.

As far as blaming a curse when everything goes wrong, I guess that is human nature but very wrong. Usually things have an explanation. sometimes things just happen.

I do believe that we create our own destinies by what we believe. If we believe bad things are going to happen and expect them then we have  created our own misfortunes and therefore cursed ourselves. Negative thinking can be very difficult to overcome.

  17. I do not believe in curses.

  18. Nope.  Curses are a superstitious idea thought up by jealous shamans trying to give the illusion of power.  They do not belong in the Science & Mathematics section!

  19. It's very possible. Sending someone negative energy definitely affects their life. And will ultimately come back at the person sending out the negative energy. Try to think positive thoughts, it helps a lot. If you are the person being cursed, the imagine your body cleansing itself of all negative energy and fill it with white light positive energy. Picture this everyday and think positive. Im sure you will see a difference. Don't ever focus on the negative.

  20. Curses are just superstitions used to explain something after it happened naturally.  When the Red Sox suck at baseball for decades, the fans are unwilling to consider the blame for a lack of success rests solely on the fact that they haven't fielded a decent team.  So they seek supernatural causes for this repeated failure.

The only time a curse will work is if the victim is aware of the curse, believes in the power of curses and is able to affect the outcome of an particular event.  Like voodoo, curses can make you display [psychologically-induced] symptoms of illness, (i.e. aches, fatigue) but are not able to produce real illness (i.e. a tumor).

  21. It's all fueled by BELIEF, in a manner the opposite of the healthy "Placebo Effect".

If some unlucky person believes in curses, and he is cursed by someone who is convinced that his curses have power, and they are both in a community of people who all believe that now the guy is cursed, then the odds are strong that something bad will happen. He might even get sick and die.

  22. Different cultures believe different things. Some would say YES and swear by the fact that people can wish bad things for them to happen and then these things DO happen. Psychologically we say that it's all merely a self-fulfilling prophecy, a phenomenon where you believe you are cursed and then end up creating the very thing you feared. I personally have been exposed to both views and don't know which to take on. I can see the psychologists perspective and in some cases I too would say that the person simply imagined it. But in life I have experienced some weird things...which cannot be explained psychologically. Perhaps there is another realm...another spirit world or whatever which we are not aware of...which DOES allow for curses/magic/spells.

    Interesting question!
