I am trying to market good quality hand bag and thinking to approach department store. I have heard from some source, that department stores buy the products on consignment basis. I just want to understand if this is true and how does it works?

  1. Consignment refers to a scenario whereby your handbags are displayed at the store for sale. The ownership of the handbags still belong to you, not the store. You have authorised the store to sell the handbags to any walk in customers. Then, the store will nomally close the accounts on a monthly basis and pay you the monies from the sales of handbags. You normally need to perform a check of the quantity of handbags to tally to the number sold at the store yourself.

Most times, you will be responsible to pay a rent and perhaps some application fee to the store for placing your hand bag in the store for sale.

  2. Hi there. I'm interested in leather handbags for exporting. Can you pls contact me to know more about your handbags?

    Thanks a lot. Claudia
