  1. For beginners thats not a bad thing. Jumping skills on a BMX bike translate into jumping skills on a MX bike. Theres no doubt about it. I mean look at 7 time SX champion Jeremy McGrath! Thats how he started was racing BMX.

Now, there a lot more to racing MX than just jumping. Theres learning throttle control while sweeping corners, negotiating whoop sections, and keeping the throttle on while going through bowl turns.

Go to a local MX track, practice for a while (on practice days) and then see if your ready to race.

  2. Many of the competitors started out in those competitions.

  3. The simple answer is: Yes.

You would be amazed at what you can find on about dirt bikes and their uses. I personally have found alot of the information I know from this website I found back in June. http://bestbikemotorcycles.info/ that is the link. I hope you find more of what you want there.

  4. biking helps but going to the gym helps more even if your mommy doesnt want you to go faster on a dirt bike.

  5. Yes, jumping BMX bikes will help, however there is a very different technique to jumping both. It also depends on what kind of jumps you are talking about. I would obviously not use wooden ramps by any means.

During off seasons when I still rode motocross, I would practice turns and starts mainly. You can be the best jumper on the planet, yet still come up short on race day. Practice keeping the front end down for the holeshot and your entry and exit in the corners. Getting the holeshot can help build confidence as well as get you a feel for leading the main event. It also helps to attract potential sponsors.  It's easy to make a small berm to help you. Just my 2 cents. I am a retired BMX Coach and Racer, but I rode many motocross races, so I hope this helps you! Good Luck!
