No he doesn't. According to the researchers on that project, his great-grandfather was a slave owned by members of the Choctaw nation. They were not given their freedom at the end of the Civil War because the Choctaw were a sovereign nation. His family wasn't freed until the 1890s. He wasn't even aware of that until they pulled the original copies of the Dawes Rolls of Freedmen and showed him "William Cheadle" and all of William's family members.
