Does drum brand matter for my first drum set?

I am going to buy my first drum set and was wondering does it matter what brand of drums I should buy? A couple of friends say go for a Ludwig or Pearl but they cost so much and I am a beginner. Advice please.

  1. no, go for some basic ones, until you know you are really keen, you can always upgrade. Best not to overcapitalise youself anyway!


  2. No.  Everybody starts somewhere, so buy the best quality you can with the money you have right now.  Later on, you will upgrade.
