Does drying my clothes on the delicate setting save energy?

I always dry clothes on the "Delicate" setting on my dryer, thinking that it saves energy because it doesn't get as hot. Is that true? (For the record, I line-dry more than half of my laundry)

  1. actually by doing this you have to run the dryer motor longer than if you applied heat.

however on a hot day in might be cheaper.

A 220 electric dryer uses less energy than one run on 110.

  2. I've heard that the best setting (if your dryer has it) is to let it autodry.  It will automatically sense if there is still water in the clothes, and when it's finally gone, it will shut the dryer off.  No wasting extra energy running the dryer longer than need be.

Good for you for line drying half of your laundry though!

  3. NO, your dryer will run much longer at a lower temperature. It is better to air dry your clothes. If you don't have an area outside to hang them, you can use plastic hangers and a shower curtain rod.

Dryers wear out your clothes faster, did you ever wonder where lint comes from, it's your clothes breaking off a little at a time. Fabric softeners coat fabrics and promote bacteria growth and reduce abosrbancy in towels.
