  1. No. Most aircraft do not have individual screens at each seat. When airlines do have them, they are typically only on overseas flights or other long flights. Even then, some airlines offer them only in first and business classes.

In fact, most aircraft don't offer any entertainment at all.

Even then, they don't have "cable". Some have satellite TV. Most airlines offer only pre-recorded programming.

In the US, only JetBlue and Frontier offer individual screens on all flights that are operated by jets. AirTran offers satellite radio.

  2. It depends on the airline.  Some airlines have personal TVs (PTVs) in each seat, each class (First, Business, Economy), every plane.  Airlines like these are Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Qatar Airlines.

You have a much higher chance of having a PTV when you fly long-distance international route, as compared to a domestic route.

Technically speaking, airlines do not have cable.  Rather, they have a set of preprogrammed movies and TV shows you can watch.  Movies are generally about 1-3 months old, depending on the airline and whether you are flying first class, business, or economy.

A good website to check is www.airlinequality.com/

  3. not really...although i've heard that some international airlines have it on certain planes. Most international flights from the US will have selected movies and some music channels you can watch/listen on board, but not cable TV.

There are 2 airlines, JetBlue and Virgin America that have it. Each seat has its own small satellite tv with some channels (like MTV, ESPN, etc...) various music and movies. They only operate in the US though....

  4. Depends on the airline. The personal TV you get on some airlines (Singapore Airlines, Qantas etc) is not broadcasting live TV, but is linked to a computer feed on board.

  5. Not usually. It depends on the airline.

  6. It depends on the Airlines you're flying with.  I know Qantas and British Airways and some of American Airlines planes have screens on the back of each seat and with headset that you can choose any one of a number of movies, comedies, dramas, sitcoms, etc......and unlike what another person answered, it's also available in the economy section.
