  1. No but many join forces for various events. My town is one of two sister towns. The bigger town ( not mine ) has a top notch police dep. and a swat team while my town has a much bigger and nicer fire dep.

  2. No. it's only the towns which do

  3. In general, towns do not need SWAT teams.

SWAT was invented (well, created first) by LAPD to respond to special situations that happen in urban law enforcement. LAPD is big enough that they can dedicate dozens of officers full-time to SWAT duty. Most towns don't have the personnel to do that. In fact, most SWAT teams are part-timers... They pull patrol duty just like everybody else. Only when duty calls they come running with special equipment.

Some larger sheriff's departments have SWAT teams, as they can afford the personnel and training. But towns? Unlikely.

  4. No, only fairly large cities have swat teams. I live in a city of 700,000 and we don't have one, though they are planning one. The city needs to be big enough to have both the need and the budget for a specialized unit like that.

  5. No, some small towns depend on the larger areas to assist

  6. swat - special weapons and tactics team.

no. only big cities and towns. the rest call the local sheriff when theres trouble. and he does really well.

  7. In many cases several local agencies will have a combined "SWAT" team as well as a narcotics task force. In Oregon for example in Central Oregon there is the "CODE" team for narcotics, CODE means Central Oregon drug Enforcement Team and is comprised of city, county, state and federal personnel. There is also a swat team comprised of several city and county agencies officers. The city of Bend, Oregon police and the Deschutes County Sheriffs Office provide the majority of the personnel for both teams as they are by far the largest agencies in the area. It is very common for agencies to support each other in these areas.

  8. No.  A lot of towns don't need their own SWAT team; if they need SWAT personnel they call for support from a nearby town that does have one.

You also posted this in the wrong section - law enforcement is down the hall. =)

  9. Larger departments who have bigger budgets do. LA, Chicago, Boston, Miami, etc. Most of the officers are either assigned to just that unit or are on an "on call" basis where they work their usual police job until they are called in as needed. Sheriffs Departments and State Police work the same way.

Smaller towns will either call a larger department for assistance, or use the "mutual aid" system. For example, you might have 3-4 officers from each town surrounding town that join up to make a large unit.

  10. Small to medium size town usually do not have such personnel.  They may rely on a neighboring city, but more than likely, they would call in the state troopers to offer that type of support

  11. NO

  12. No, most small towns do not have SWAT teams. However, often times there are "shared" teams. For instance LA SWAT belongs to Los Angeles, however, certain nearby cities and towns have the ability to call on them when needed.

  13. Most BIG City's do, towns prob not
