Seriously, has anyone ever done any research on this? I'm just wondering cuz most vegetarians seem like pretty laid-back people. And I'm not talking about vegans, either. Those people are in a class of their own and a touch crazy.

  1. Vegetarians kill more life then meat eaters.

  2. In my own personal opinion yes, it does.  But then, not really.  I'm calling myself a vegetarian now for a variety of reasons but one is the moral issue.  I was a meat eater until just recently, and that was because I just never thought seriously about it.  Come on, people don't think. American culture is bombarded with meat-cheap fast food meat.  Research?  I don't know of any, but I'm sure it's been done.

  3. Non organic meat has hormones to increase muscle mass and other things such as antibotics.

If you are going to eat meat, go organic.

  4. of course, eating meat is no indication of evil, especially as the practise is interwoven into the mentality of most people.  Meat eating is so common, advertised and promoted, even in schools, that it is considered stranger to question it.  Also, lots of people chop and change on this issue, or make deicisions later on in life.

However, people who do not give a d**n about animal suffering, who rejoice in animal killing, who perform the killing themselves, or who know what goes on but carry on regardless, are a source for concern.

I have seen graphic evidence, both undercover, and official documentary coverage, of every day abbatoir behaviour, and much of it was sick, twisted and uncivilised.  Many of the workers admit they do the jobs because killing humans is illegal.  I have also known personally a slaughter house employee with a history of violent crime, including attempted murder.

It is also true that most serial killers and other criminals of that bracket began their "carees" working in such places.

And before anyone pipes, "But Hitler wasa vegetarian!"  it is worth noting that all other murderous dictators of note were not, and that, if indeed the he was, it was apparently only for medical reasons.

Whenever I have discussed the ethics of meat eating with die-hard meat eaters, they have become derisory or abusive.  Indeed, many appear to enjoy or not care about the implied suffering.  this suggests they are similarly belligerent in other things, and the only person I have ever known who willingly identifies as "socopathic" (a worker in a public library of all places!) was a rigorous defender of butchery and meat eating.
