Question:

Does eating meat seem wrong to anyone else?

Studies show for example that pigs are as intelligent as three year old children and that they are so sensitive you can even hurt their feelings. Doesn't it seem wrong to kill sentient creatures and eat them? If we have as a goal to maximize pleasure and minimize pain among the sentient beings of the world, as Epicurus taught, wouldn't the suffering among animals caused by meat eating be counter to this goal?

  2. Who's Epicurus?  Other than that meat eating is Wrong!

    So basically you're right!

  3. No way meat is the best.. especially pork it's my favourite..

  4. No, I don't think meat eating is wrong.

In any case, i don't waste the animal, I eat it. i don't kill the animal for pleasure, I kill it for food I don;t torture an animal before I kill it, I try to make sure that death is as painless as possible. When I hunt, its often one shot, one kill (gun or arrow) and none of the animal is wasted.

By the way, Epicurius was also the root word of the "epicure" as someone who enjoys rich, good food. If we are to take into context the time in which he lived, this would include animals some of which we don't even eat anymore today. Grilled peacock tongue anyone?

  5. yes I do  that's why I have been vegetarian since i was 12 and have been vegan for 3 months now I am sooo happy someone feel the same way I do http://www.peta.com/ =^..^=

  6. Being a long time vegetarian I should abide with this line of thinking. Yet, depending on ones blood type, some people do need to eat animal proteins such as meat and fish. Sadly enough, humans are carnivores, unless you are an A blood type, which is the natural vegetarian blood type.  All creatures are sentient and have a soul, a consciousness. One must have respect and gratefulness for the sacrifice of the like they take consuming their bodies. Same goes for the plant kingdom... It's not because animals and plants don't share the same kind of expression of being alive that they don't have feelings and consciousness. Bottom line is, it's all a matter of respect.

  7. The idea of pigs being akin to three year old human children is fallacious.  Sure, they are intelligent in a certain fashion, but this view is too anthropomorphic in that ascribes humanity to that which is not human and thinks quite differently from us.

That said, cruelty has no place in my life view, but I will still eat meat.

  8. i totally agree with you! eating meat is definitely wrong, since the industry tortures the animals so much.

  9. circle of life.  if we DIDNT eat pigs, theyd just die anyway because they dont know how to take care of themselves.  And not too many humans would like to have pigs as pets.  Either way, we have canine teeth for a reason.  Your choice of food shouldn't depend on how smart what you're eating is, thats just dumb.  Humans have been eating meat forever, and its not about to stop anytime soon.

  10. yes but most people are too selfish or shortsighted to think like that. it doesnt help that meat doesnt really look like animals. Im a vegan and I cant tell you how many times people just look at me and say "but why? meats so tasty!" even human rights advocates and supposedly smart people.

Animals are viewed the same way black people used to be, as subspecies. hopefully there will be a revolution:-)

  11. Factory farming is definitely wrong.

Many people hunt, and no one has any business telling someone that it's wrong to eat an animal that they killed in the wild.

Most natural predators have been killed off and if people didn't hunt their would-be prey, they would overpopulate and cause a long list of problems for everyone.

  12. I totally agree with Caramba!O because i have been eating vegetable for long time... and I even don't feel any different!

The only thing is that when I eat meat again, even when a very small amount I feel dump, guilty... (even egg..)

  13. I constantly feel guilty. Every time I go vegan or vegetarian I get EXTREMELY sick. Plus plastic is terrible for the earth and that's what most vegan materials are made of. I want to try to go vegetarian again but I won't go vegan, two times is enough. But in the end, no matter what we do everything is bad on someone or something. And that's just life, but I'll never feel okay about eating someones life.

  14. If we were meant to only eat vegetarian then we would have teeth like a cow, made for grinding plant matter. But we have the sharp pointy teeth called "canine incisors" made for the ripping and tearing of meat. I figure that God knew what he was doing by putting those teeth in my mouth, why should I go against God's plan and not eat meat?

  15. when i put that crispy piece of meat on my bacon, egg & cheese sandwich or cut into my juicy fillet mignon.... I suddenly lose all feelings for the animal. sorry but i just cook too well

  16. its the food chain, u wouldnt make a great white stop eating fish or a lion stop eating zebras would u?

  17. Although human's bodies are built to be vegetarian, I will not give up meat.

    Sorry..

  18. I like pork so I will continue to eat it

  19. Ok

    i hate pig its gross

    but i luv meat!!!

    Yummo!

And animals dont have souls so they dont go to heaven or h**l.

y let them turn to dust when u cant just eat them!

  21. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same compassionate attitude towards animals as you do.  In fact, centuries ago, eating animals was a means of survival.  It's sad that this inhumane tradition has continued, despite the fact that there are plenty of other substitutes for protein now.

In addition, animals are not in the most hygienic environments when being raised for food.  According to Peta, chickens are in tiny pens with their own p**p.  This is what people are eating!  Granted, I'm sure it's all cleaned, but still.  I used to watch my mother prepare raw meat, and it's a pain - the cleaning process, the blood.  It's not worth it.

  22. I've always thought it was a sort of human arrogance for the most part to not eat flesh for the "benefit" of animals.  Like we think we're better than they are, instead of just animals ourselves.

Most pigs wouldn't think twice about eating a young child if they could get at them (in fact, farmers have to keep pigs away from young livestock for this very reason).

On the other hand, I don't think its morally wrong for a pig or lion or whatever to eat a human, I just don't like the idea because I am human.

But I absolutely don't believe in allowing animals, especially farm animals, to suffer.  In fact, if kept properly, they are given more "pleasure" (another human concept really) in the long run than if they were in the wild.

So I guess it depends on whether you think death is the ultimate sufferance.  If you do, then killing animals for food is innately wrong.  If you don't, and you just accept it as a part of life, then keeping animals for food could actually increase the amount of wellbeing in the world (of course, mass produced animals that suffer throughout their lives at the moment makes this impossible and eating their flesh should be avoided).

Um, of course, this is just what I think and I respect your opinion too.  The more people who actually think about this instead of taking it for granted the better!

  23. I think its wrong

  24. i felt bad about eating meat so i became vegetarian

  25. i understand your choice but in my opinion if the world population stopped eating meat their would be a shortage of food

  26. you are just an emotional type of person.

can't find someone to express your feelings? leave the pigs. go find a girlfriend.

  27. But they are so Tasty!!!!!!!!

  28. Nope.  Meat is tasty and I need something a little more substantial than rabbit food.

  29. Eating meat is as normal and morally right as eating vegetables.  Something must die to sustain life for others.

  30. People ignorant and disregard this because they have no conscience.
