  1. no, in some cases an egg can be released into both fallopian tubes, hence fraternal twins (not identical)


  2. Normally yes, unless there is a predisposition to twins, the maternal age is over 35, or you're on a fertility medication. However, in these cases, normally one ovary pops out two eggs, rather than both ovaries being busy during the same month. In short, only 50% of the viable sperm will head towards the correct ovary, but as there are often 100 million sperm in each ejaculate and it only takes one to do the deed, the odds are good :)
