I have read many places that evening primrose oil helps to soften the cervix and prepare for labor. i asked my doctor today if i could take it and she said it was fine but would not induce labor... so my question is has anyone taken this before and has it helped at all?? also how much did you take??

  1. my midwife also recommended this to me -- though she said s*x works even better, so instead of spending money, my husband appreciates the other option. :-)

    I was 2 cm dilated @ 37 weeks.

  2. Trust me on this one, your body will know when and how to prepare itself for labor.  You don't need to do anything at all.  Women have been giving birth for thousands of years and much of it before primrose oil.  All you need to do is relax and let nature take her course.  :)  (and best of luck on your new baby!!)

  3. My OBGYN actually recommended it but I did not take it She said it would soften the cervix but not induce labor.

  4. i heard it works but dont know personally.

  5. Yes it can help soften the cervix, but only if your body is already preparing itself. It doesn't induce labor though. I took it when I was pregnant with my first child, although honestly, I don't think it did much because I ended up being induced after going 11 days past my due date.
