  1. I have a sewing machine but never even use it.It's an old fashion singer, that was my grandmothers, from the 18 hundreds.I DO use it to make halloween costumes, though. If your gonna put it to good use, than just go buy one yourself.you said your mom left you alot of money,so why wait for hubby to buy it?

  2. I dont know about every woman, but i sure do. I find it invaluable, & have had mine for about 20 yrs.

There's mending, altering, fancy dress (if you have kids), making your own curtains & clothes.

Try suggesting it to your hubby, then back off & let him think about it. Let him come back to you, let him think its his idea, & just maybe,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  3. not every woman have one but i do and i barely use it

  4. Not every woman owns one... my mother, for example, does not like doing anything domestic, and doesn't own one.  My mother-in-law has one, but doesn't ever use it.

First, what do you want the sewing machine for?  Do you just want to hem pants, do you want to make clothes, or do you want to start quilting?  A basic machine might sell for $50, but computerized ones sell for thousands of dollars.  If you're not sure what you want to do, look for a basic machine with a few decorative stitches - this will be enough for you to get a feel for different uses, and many shops will let you trade up.  Shop at a local fabric/quilting store; many sell used machines, and as previously mentioned, if you decide you eventually want a new model, they'll often give you credit for the trade in.

As for your husband, talk to him about why you want a machine.  For example, if you're a petite woman who has to have all her pants hemmed by a seamstress, a machine would save you money in the long run.  If you're interested in taking classes, the machine would expand your social circle.

In short:  figure out what you want to do with the machine, look for used machines at a store that lets you trade in, and talk it out with your husband.

  5. No, not every woman has one. Anymore, most women don't know how to even use them.

Ask for it as a gift for a special occasion. Or ask for gift certificate or cash.

You should look into making yourself some cash. A part-time office job, or do one of those survey things on the internet that pays. Then you can get whatever you feel like!
