  1. Actually no, for every soldier on the front there are seven in the rear providing support services. It is very possible to retire from the army and never see the front line.

  2. No

  3. Most people never see actual combat, even those in Iraq. Most never fire their weapon.

  4. No. A very small percentage of people in the military actually get to see combat. Unless your in Special Forces that is or your MOS is specifically for combat like Infantry or a close variation.

Friend of mine is in the USMC you would think they would send him to Iraq. Well they sent him to Japan now the only action he sees is when he goes out clubbing lol

  5. most likely.

  6. only if the u.s. can find another war to go to

  7. No way..Only a very small amount of the total force ever visit a war zone and even then only a small percentage of those ever see combat..

Just because someone deploys to the middle east does not mean they are in war or are hardened war vets..

  8. basically ya

  9. Right now, the answer would be your odds of seeing some from of combat in a normal 4 year tour would be pretty good.  Most units are deploying every one to two years at the moment.

  10. Wow... a lot of people said no.  I'm in the Air Force (I know people usually bag on us for not being in the war) and yet, I don't know ANYONE who in their enlistment hasn't gone to war or near the war.

So if the Air Force is this way, I assume the Army is even more.  Of course there are always some people who don't, but I would say you should expect to.  Otherwise, what good are you to the Army/Air Force/Marines/Navy?  That person you're replacing when you deploy gets to go home to their family.  You join the military knowing you will serve your country, and there are 2 wars going on right now.

Some people have been to the war more multiple times.  I hope that those who haven't go and serve so that those who have can have a break!
