  1. Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores.  We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene.   Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

There is no way to know for sure if you have picked up the cold sore virus (which is the herpes virus) from your girlfriend until you either have an outbreak or get tested for the virus.  Even if you do have it, you might not have gotten it from your girlfriend.  It could have been dormant in your body for years.

Canker sores are mouth ulcers and are not caused by a virus.  They may be caused by irritation such as from braces, or by a variety of other causes, and they are not contagious.

  2. no, not everyone has cold sores. ive never had one in my entire life. you could still possibly have herpes, but its unlikely if she didnt have an outbreak when you kissed her.

    Good luck ;-)

  4. 2 twins could get kissed, licked, and humped by Peter North.  Assuming he definitely has it-- the two twins could have 12 different scenarios.

    1. Nothing, and nothing on the other.

    2. Nothing, and a horrible outbreak on her mouth on the other.

    3. Genital herpes 2 only, and genital herpes 1 only on the other.

The list can go on and on.

Point being, you were more than likely exposed, and if you kiss 5 more people, you have a mathematical certainty of contacting it; However you might not get an outbreak, but you could give it to someone else.

This is a matter of being symptomatic or non-symptomatic.

Thank you, I'll be here all week taking Valtrex.
