  1. It depends on your school. like at my school you didnt make the team you just signed up.depending on how fast you run your 3 mile will determain on if you make varsity or JV.

I have ran since my freshman year and I have always ran Varsity. Cross Country is a GREAT sport.

and you dont laught at the others who are slower than you. at least on my team we dont.. I use to run with a girl that came in last at all the meets. and she ran like a 42 min/3 mile. she was the worst on the team.. but we all respected her for continuing to run.Out of all of the team she was the one who was the most dedicated.. she actually got that award at our ceremony!!

  2. there are some fat ppl on my team that come close to passing out. no one laughs at them we high five each other and encourage each other ."keep it up girl allmost done" stuff like that.  I would go ahead and do it if I were you.you have to start some where.

and start running at least every other day. start with one mile then one week later mile and half. then one week later 2 miles. and so on increasing half a mile a week untill you reach about 3 1/2 miles. Then keep that millage untill you get really good. And you wont have to worry about being slow any more you will be the fastest one on your team I bet.

    Good Luck! =)

  3. every one at my school can join, and then there are seven varsity girls. Freshman are not the only ones who have trouble, i would say that it is preatty even. We even had some seniors who did it just for fun and were not so good.

  4. Everyone makes the team. We have girls teams with 30 and boys with over 20. Usually only to 10 even sniff the top 7 spots and  rarely do we have anyone quit. Work hard and try to improve and be apart of the team and I'm sure you teammates will accept you and help you. As stated above in other responses CC kids are usually very supportive. I honestly doubt anyone will laugh. Do all the workouts to the best of your ability and show some guts and determination and you will start to improve and earn respect. We have girls that have taken over 2 minutes off their times per mile in one season. Boys that have gone from 10 min/ mile to 7 in a year. It's not unheard of.

  5. Cross country is one of the least popular sport in most high schools, I think.

This is because many teenagers regard running as a punishment, mostly from their elementary days.

It does not mean it is not competetive, especially at higher levels, just not as popular.

If you just talk to the coach, and say that you are not in good shape now but would work very hard, chances are he will understand.

  6. cross country runners are usually very supportive of each other, and the newbies. It doesn't matter that your a sophmore. everyone usually gets to run, but only the varsity (usually top seven) get to run in state meets and really compete. But its fun anyway. Don't worry about being made fun of, I doubt that will happen. They will probably give you advice and stuff to help you. Just don't seem rude or s****. and you'll be fine.

    Good luck!
