If you like music then you definitely should get an mp3 player. Ipods are great if you want something really easy to use but they can be quite pricey. Just don't get a zune (I love microsoft but zune's are not good)

Yes, at least 90% of kids in hs and college have an iPod/mp3 player.  I couldn't live without mine, it gets me through so many boring moments every day.  You should definitely get one.
