Does evolution explain bigger b***s?

Question

It seems to me that I see more and more women with big b***s, even among those who are otherwise slim. It seems especially true in prosperous areas and among well-off populations. Could it be that the current fashion for big b***s is leading wealthier men to choose well-endowed wives who then pass the trait on to their daughters? I don't discount the effect of implants, but I can't believe this accounts for more than a small part of the phenomenon,

Simple genetics.  The more big breasted women, the bigger a chance of their daughters having them too. It passes on and the gene grows in appearance.  And plastic surgery is at an all time high...

I agree 100%. Women with larger b*****s are commonly prefered by men for mating purposes. (although not always) It goes the same for the fact that men are taller in modern day than they used to be. It's the process of natural selection. Taller men are generally preffered by woman and so the traits get passed on.

Everyone here who says silicon/plastic surgery is right. b***s stay the same with evolution. Also the invention of push up bras, and the different styles of clothes make some b***s look bigger than others.

I suspect it's more the result of better nutrition, contemporary fashion, and surgical enhancement.

The process of evolution is moving a little too slowly to see such results.

Honestly, I would say it's the opposite. Biology would contribute to bigger b***s if more women breast fed, like back hundreds of years ago before bottles and formula.

If anything, I think the general trend would be that they are shrinking. In about a few hundred years we'll know. I think it's merely that people can afford plastic surgeries, esp. since you noted to notice this in affluent areas.

you know that when woman give birth they have to breast feed their baby. It's just a sight that says my child won't go hungry. but in sociality they don't understand why they want big boob but they like them but it's only in their nature. The reason for why people are so into them now a days is because of pop culture and the media. They just over blown the concept and now people are obsessed with them because they were over exposed to big b***s.

Also now a days there are a lot of hormones in food may causes the growth in breast. doesn't really work for everyone but the truth people diets has changed from what it was 50 years ago. But there are also the ideal of implants and hormones pill that were used for people who wanted larger breast.

Funny how a question dealing with both Evolution and Breast Size attracts over 25 responses in 10 minutes. Go figure...

Average breast size, even when plastic surgery is accounted for, has increased in the last 20 years. Proposed reasons include: increased  dietary fat, hormones in food, better nutrition, sedentary lifestyle. As yet there are no definitive, peer reviewed studies that explain the change.

While most men are attracted to large b*****s, and in so doing they may confer an evolutionary advantage, the rapid change seen here (one generation) speaks more to environment than genetics. As evidence of this look at all the D-cup women in their teens and 20's who have B and C cup mothers (even after having kids).
