Does excel allow 2 users to edit same document at the same time

I supposed excel does not allow to do so. So can anybody tell me what can I do, so that several users can access an excel document and edit the cells at the same time?

I am thinking about writing a simple program working on visual basic 6 and connected to access database. But if there is a simpler way to do this, would be great.

Thnx a lot friends

  1. There is no way to set it for more then one person to change the documetn at one time.  You dont really want to allow this anyway, because it can cause continuity errors.  Such as if one person changes a cell, then another changes the same cell, whoever saves last will have the information kept.  Never a good thing.  Because of this excel locks you out of editing a document, and only the person who first opens it has full access.

Depending on what version of excel you are using, microsoft offers project managment tools.  I would open help, and type in project managment.  See if any of the options there can help you.

  2. Hi,

No this will not be allowed, if opened by one user the other user will be prompted that the document is already in use and that it will open in read-only modus.

  3. This has always been a long time pet hate of mine and there isnt really any good help out there for it.

    Sadly i cannot help either!

Although i can point you in the direction of other objects

SQL frontend etc might be a worthwhile development.

Look into Googles tools for spreadsheets they provide online, this could provide an easy solution.

    Good luck

  4. Yes excel does allow more than one user to edit the same document at the same time. Go to Tool then Share Workbook. In the Editing tab check "Allow changes by more than one user at the same time." Then in the Advanced tab under Update changes select "Automatically every: 5 minutes." This will ensure that the spreadsheet will save and show all user changes automatically every 5 minutes. Then hit ok. If your document is already saved somewhere it will do a save and if it isn't already saved then it will do a "Save As".

    Best of Luck
