Does farting make one lighter on the scales?

Imagine I'm standing on highly accurate scales, and I have a massive bum-splitting f**t. By releasing the gas your body would have a tiny reduction in mass. But when you consider hot air rises (less dense than surrounding air), wouldn't that make you heavier?

  1. Besides the jolt which is temporary, you are loosing 1.78e-11 gr (man) or 1.61e-11 gr(woman) , measured on extremely accurate scales, but it is due to the minute perspiration that evaporates, due to the effort.

  2. Take 2 identical balloons.  Weigh each for accuracy.  Blow one of them up.  Now weigh them.  That would be your answer.   one blown up is heavier.

  3. I'm having the exact same debate here at work and we've come to the conclusion that as you can smell a f**t, it must rise and spread, so is lighter than air.

So if you're expelling lighter-than-air gas, unless it's replaced by a similar quantity of lighter-than-air gas, then you'll be heavier.

So if you let one fly the day after a big dinner, but stopped eating afterward so you haven't replenished your arsenal, then you've put on some weight!

  4. AHAHAHHAHAHA THIS IS THE FUNNIEST QUESTION I'VE READ EVER ON HERE.

Anyway, man, if farting made you lose weight, I'd be doing it all day to make sure I stayed thin.
