Question:

Does fast reflexes help a boxer?

How do some boxers still magically slip punches even though punches seem like they're thrown at them with lightning speed? Is it timing or luck that makes them slip these punches? Reflexes have a lot to do with boxing too huh? How can you improve your reflexes in boxing? Any specific exercises would be useful. =]

  1. Yes, Floyd Mayweather would be nothing without his reflexes, believe me. His reflexes and speed are god-given gifts. Your reflexes have more to do with your genes than anything, but, there are many things you can do to reach your maximum potential. Being able to recognize when a fighter is going to throw a punch is most important for building your fighting reflexes. Knowing how opponents typically set up punches, whether it be an uppercut, jab, or hook, is important, because than you can dodge before it is even thrown. If you practice, being able to recognize an incoming punches will become second nature. The best way to do this is too have a sparring partner, but, if you dont have one, your next best bet would be to look in the mirror and throw punches on your own, just to help you recognize certain punch set-ups.
