  1. There could be lots of reasons. If you are already playing online though, then it shouldn't be your router. In any case you should check out http://www.portforward.com. It gives you step-by-step instructions from configuring your router to play on bnet.

Does it just happen when you play custom games or when you play bnet games too?

If it is just custom then it might be:

You are far away from the host.

You are playing on the wrong realm. (If you are on the west coast, use USWest, etc.)

The host has a bad connection.

If it is all games then:

    Your ISP is being dumb.

You have your router configured improperly to work with your high speed modem. Some ISP's require that your modem be in bridge mode to use a router.

Your computer is having issues with graphics, processing, etc. Some games are cpu intensive.

If you are using an overclocked video card, it could be getting too hot and causing skipping.

  2. most of the firewall do have impact on playing games online.

  3. Could be. Zone Alarm has a Game Mode. But it could be your ISP throttling your bandwidth, or your computer may be underpowered in terms of graphics acceleration or RAM or video memory, etc., etc.

  4. yes, it possibly can, because you'r firewall is using a big part of your internet connection. And it's checking for virusus from all the ports. So also the port where you play wc3 on.
