When I was younger I always told flipping on and off lights continuously can cause a fire. While I understand it could waist electricity does it really cause a fire? I have seen this done a few times but never has anything happened nor have I ever heard of a fire starting because of it. I have never done this but I just want to know if this just a lie or not.

  1. i suppose if you really did it long enough, but who really has time.

    so no

  2. It depends on if your causing a short. Ever hold the switch in the middle and hear a crackling noise? That's a spark, open flame, jumping between the contacts. As with any open flame there is a chance of starting a fire.

  3. I'm 73 and and never heard of anything like that.

    it's a lie.

    good luck to ya

  4. probably only if there is a short in the wiring, the sparking will deffinately cause a fire but if the wiring is up to code you are ok.
