Hello. I was wondering... Let's say I prepaid 40 bucks for gas. When I pump the gas, does the gas pump machine automatically stop when the scale hits $40? Thank you very much for your time.

  1. I used to work at an exxon. The cashier is the person who pre enters the amount into the register that causes the pump to stop....if they do not enter the amount into the correct pump number it will not stop.  Just make sure that  u ask the cashier to set the pump to stop automatically (but most of the time , if they have common sense, they will do it without you asking).  Ive seen a cashier forget to preset the pump and cause someone to fill up more than they intended and come back in and pay for it.

  2. Yes...

  3. Almost always. I have not seen one go over the prepaid amount in a long, long time. More than 10 years.

  4. Yes, Once it hits $40, The Pump will stop.

  5. It does for me.

  6. if you paid the cashier 40, then yes, it will stop. however, if it goes a penny or two over, you are not responsible. it should have stopped. if it goes 10 or more over, you are responsible because you should have been paying attention. but chances are, yes, it will stop. you'll hear it slow down as it nears 40.

  7. If its  a  older  station it  may have oder  pumps  that  do not.  Newer  stations  or  major  name  stations  do,  but  I  always  keep eye on it  for  sure.  MIX ups  do happen.   *mamatx

  8. Yes, self-service pumps will stop at the amount automatically, and will in fact slow down pumping once you're near the amount.

  9. everytime i have done this, yes it has stopped.

  10. yes

  11. i've work at a gas station before, yes, most of the time but i still recommend standing at the nozzle the WHOLE TIME.. somelady just swiped her card and let it go while she came into the store.. it kept going and going.. big mess to clean..and she still had to pay for all the gas going all over the ground..so it doens't always stop..

  12. Yes, and the way you'll know it's going to stop at 40 is that around 39.50 ot will slow down. If it doesn't, you'll have to be ready to stop it yourself.

But these days that's rare and it will pretty much always stop itself.

  13. It should, however if you tank does not need that much gas the nozzle will shut off automatically
