because the screen does emit light, and since most webpages are white (including this one) it can cause short term strain, but it hasn't been associated with any long term effects.

before i hit high school i barely used the computer.

ever since 9th grade, im on the computer like almost everyday.

and i never needed glasses, i mean, i didnt have perfect vision, but i could see the board from allt eh way from the back fo the room.

now im in 10th grade, and i notice i can no longer see the bored, from the middle of the room. :\

now im getting glasses in october.

to try to prevent it, try writing your essays. XD or lower the brightness.

i really regret it. (my brightness on my laptop is on high...)

yes it was stated on the news three weeks ago that if you stay on the computer more than two hours a dayy, you will be gaurenteed some sort of blindness within 10 years.

Well, it gets your eyes used to only using the muscles required to see close up- and that's why it's harder to see things far away if you spend a LOT of time on the computer, or work with them. Just occasionally shouldn't hurt- like a 3 hours a week. But I worked with computers 8 hours a day and my eye sight has deteriorated more quickly.

No.  Computers cause eyestrain and fatigue, but don't affect your eyesight.
