Unless it's pure gold probably not, but that said it can be scratched & damaged if you use harsh cleaners.  Pure gold is very soft, and even with no corrosives being used to clean it, the metal can basically be rubbed away  to nothing rather quickly. As with anything metal, the less chemicals you use the better.

    Cheaper golds like 9carat tend to have other metals mixed with the gold to avoid this kind of problem.
