Does google maps for WM use an internet connection?

Or does it only use my built in gps? I have a tilt but no internet plan (yet) and need a program which operates independent of the internet

It uses both. You can still use wifi if you don't have an internet plan with no cost to you.

Yes, it will be using your Data Plan with Google Maps.

I would also check if you need to pay additional money to use GPS function of the TILT. I know for some phones there's a separate bill for it. GPS for it should be TomTom.

I don't believe Google Maps is a GPS. It's only maps.
