  1. the best glass of water is preceded by the worst thirst..the best s*x is preceded by the worst sexual frustration.. the best best scratch is preceded by the worst itch.. the best redemption is preceded by the worst humiliation and indignity.. Appreciation only exists after one suffers and overcomes that suffering. It is a type of happiness. But just because appreciation is a type of happiness, does not mean that happiness is limited to just appreciation. Perhaps there is a type of happiness that isn't appreciation. A type of happiness that exists in a mind without horrible memories. A type of happiness that exists in a mind that has never experienced pain before. I have never seen evidence of such a happiness. But it may exist.

  2. I had never thought of it in those terms but I think that is an excellent observation.  Yes--sounds very logical--at least to me.  Thank you

  3. chaplin said something like:

happiness is the time between two miseries,

  4. You can say it this way.You have to try hard to obtain a thing. For example, you want to get a good result in your examination. You have to study hard & do your best.In this way,you will feel the satisfaction after get the result you want.Any happiness comes from having pain is the sweetest & you will surely remember it forever.Think about it.

  5. the happiness comes when the pain goes away.  If we had no sadness or pain, we would have nothing to compare with when we had happiness so we wouldn't appreciate it.

  6. Happiness is that elusive emotion everyone wants more off, yet no one can seem to define what it is and no one knows how to get it! its elusive, ephemeral  and impalpable. Its like trying to find the end of the rainbow and the "imagines" pot of gold!

Happiness usually comes from living in the moment, being in the here and now. Being involved in something so much so that you are fully engaged in the "activity." You lose track of time and your thoughts remain in the here and now, not prophesising with doom and gloom about future disaster which have yet to happen... and not reminiscing about the past, failures, all the should's we tend to carry, not berating yourself for the failures and mistakes you have already made.

Pain doesn't give you happiness. The absence of pain would give relief. For me happiness is tied in with satisfaction, security, safety, optimism and hope. I don't "feel" happy if I am dissatisfied, feel insecure, unsafe, out of control, negative and hopeless. I think confidence also plays a part. You kind of need to have confidence about your skills and ability to cope with life in order to feel secure enough to let go of negativity and move towards feelings of contentment and happiness.

I wish you best the luck trying to find your own way to be happy. Its not an absolute and its not something anyone can have and feel all of the time. It comes and goes in fleeting moments, a bit like bursts of sunshine! My the sun shine down on you as you find happiness! Regards.

  7. No, happiness does not come from experiencing pain. But you learn some things while you are experiencing pain. From your pain you learn how to deal with your problems. When you learn how to deal with it, then maybe you can achieve happiness.

Happiness comes from learning from your mistakes or pain, not the pain itself. Cause there are times when we experience pain, but we don't learn anything from it. So by learning from your mistakes ,you can experience real happiness.

  8. It cames after the pain/sadness/bad life is over.If these are not present, the feeling of happiness will be monotonous and one will not feel happiness.

  9. "if there was no sadness blah blah blah"

    BS

You could run around ecstatic all the time having never experienced sadness.

It would just be "your normal mood", but happy can be your baseline mood too.

  10. Happiness is a state of mind.

It is art of living to be content with where ever you are.

And as all living beings we aspire to do the best in every given situation.

Part of refining ourselves in this world

Sorry if I am vague but it is detailed and hard to explain

  11. ...happiness comes to an individual by way of emotions, events, good

news, personal reasons or no reason at all...

    ...thanks for asking...

  12. happiness does not come from pain but pain can be the cause for transition to the state of happiness.

  13. Happiness is a state of being. where all ur worries, tensions, sadness, pains dissappear with continuous quest for something better.

  14. I believe happiness comes from pain, because we begin to feel the duality of these two emotions.

It would not be the same in our lives if we only had to experience one of them.  If you were happy all the time, you always got your way, your love always worked out, you never lost someone you loved, etc....  You would be living in a dream world. This just does not happen.  But if it did, you would not know what pain is, and you would live your life being happy not fearing anything bad.   And on the opposite end, if you lived your life in pain, everyone treats you bad, talks down to you, abuses you in all forms, etc... then you would never know there was anything better to strive for in your life.  You would not know the sweet success of being happy!

So, I believe we have to have these two qualities to make happiness all the more sweeter to cherish it, and look at pain as a way to grow and push ourselves toward the higher, better happiness that we know exists.
