now, this might seem like a stupid question but does having a stereo system with amplifiers and sub woofers cause the cars battery and alternator to die early then expected?

thanks

  1. NO, because the alternator is what keeps the battery charged for your sounds and if you are drawing too much power your alternator would be damaged, not the battery

your battery is only affected if your alternator is not working correctly or you play your sounds with the car off (alternator not keeping it charged) and you keep letting the battery drain

  2. No. If you checked the actual 12 volt amprage used by your sterio amp, you'll find it to be 20 amps or less. just look at the fuse size.   Your head lights plus tail lights use almost that. They don't cause the battery or alt to fail early, do they? I have never met a sterio store salesman/woman with an electrical degree yet.

  3. not a stupid question if you have a high wattage stereo you will need and uprgraded altenator and a capacitator often it takes so much juice it kills everything if you dont have the right upgrades
