Does having a lot of songs (6500) on Itunes slow down your computer?

i have a lot of songs and im wondering if that could be why my computer is a slower than it used to be.

  1. Without knowing which OS you are using I am assuming WindowsXP.

    All M$'s OS' use harddrive space as virtual memory...meaning that documents like word and excell are copied to this virtual memory while you work on them.  This virtual memory uses whatever free space you have on the harddrive. But as you install and remove apps and documents and files, the space becomes fragmented...think of your harddrive like a vinyl record...with a needle running in a contiguous line. Now put one part of the song at the beginning, another near the center and so forth, forcing the needle to jump around the record and that pretty much is what your harddrive is doing trying to get all to all the apps.

    So yes, having that many songs could cause slow ups as they take up space.

    try running Degrag. You can click on start, then run, then type Defrag.

    Otherwise, open My computer, right click your C drive and select properties. From there click on tools.


  2. could be, depends on how much rpm is on your hard drive.  and it could also be a virus
