  1. no not at all...

    wokr on your legs

especially your calves... continually lift yourself up on tiptoes and back down

  2. If you gain to much weight getting muscle in your upper body it can hurt your vertical jump.

  3. Nope the only thing that your upper body does at all is your arms giving you a slight increase from the momentum, but that doesn't come from strength.

By the way calves aren't the most important muscles in jumping, your quads are.

  4. your calves are the most important cause if you put on too much weight, it could hurt it a lot. but my trainer once told me that when you jump, your arm swings help a lot so i guess that the upper body does help your jump even if its just very small.

  5. nope, its all in your calves

  6. Your upper body does contribute a little. Try standing with your feet flat on the ground and swinging your arms up as fast as possible and stop them when your hands are even with the top of your head. Your heels should come off the ground a little, demonstrating a vertical force contribution. This is just from explosiveness in your shoulders though. All around upper body training won't help you jump, and yes if you add too much weight, it could lower your vertical, but your body should adjust to gradual weight gains. So don't quit training your upper body, because it has other benefits for sports.

Most of the power in jumping comes from your quads and hamstrings through hip and knee extension; contrary to popular belief, your calves contribute a relatively low amount.
