  1. i dont think so. i dont have one and it works fine.

  2. The cable enables deep color playstation 3 graphics, high frame rate and high-speed performance. Having that cable only makes the play better, for a better more live like play use it. It doesint matter if you use it, But if your a seriouse gamer then buy it.

  3. If you have an HDTV then HDMI cables make a huge difference as output is in digital format. Without HDMI I assume you'll use composite cables which will make movies or games look like they are played on any normal TV. That is if it doesn't matter to you whether or not playing in HD matters.

  4. It depends on your HDTV - odds are, you won't have any significant improvement over component cables.

Component cables will carry the HD signal, but not the 30bpp color or 1080p/60 that HDMI 1.3 will do.

If you already have component cables, and you are happy with the performace, don't upgrade.  If you are deciding which to get, then go with HDMI.

  5. Yes, if you hook up a playstation 3 to a tv 26in and up with some av wires, the pixels will be all stretched out and ugly. Get an HDMI cable, because no one wants to play in 480i on a 1080p tv.
