Does having an associates degree in the state of California qualify me to become a private investigator??

I am currently in pursuit of my A.A.S degree in police science science. I have heard from a friend in California that a two year degree in police science, criminal justice or law qualifies you to get a license as a private investigator. He told me the education/degree would make up for the three year experience qualification in order to obtain a license. Is this true? Really want to know and would appreciate the help greatly, thanks!!
