Does he love me or hate me? I'm NOT exaggerating, and I really cannot tell?

There is a guy who I used to be very competitive with. We would debate strongly, disagree on a lot of subjects, and on one occasion he called me crazy and shook his head and laughed.However, when I said the definition of a word that no one else agreed with except him, he said, "See, we're the only smart people in this whole advanced class." He also said I was "amazingly smart". He also, sits near me at lunch when we have assigned tables. This isn't a singles/dating question, partly because I have no interest in dating him, but also because this is really bothering me. I'm not sure if he dislikes me and just thinks I'm smart, or if he likes me. I'm just so d**n curious!

Love,hate who knows? He respects you and that's significant. Indeed it is the cornerstone of personal relationships. Will you two go anywhere? Not unless you both want to. There is a chance here to build a really solid friendship, based on that respect. Study partners and the like. Where you go with it is up to you. I just wanted you to see what you had.
