Does he or she get a medal?

Question

In a relay race there is usually one person who runs in the heats to qualify the team but is not used in the final race, does that person get a medal? If so all five members get a medal then and why isn't he or she on the podium collecting it?

I guess they give the relay medal to their country..

But I dont know..
