Does he qualify for a grant ??

my son has lived away from home for 4 years now he began a uni course last year . Is there any where to apply that will give him a grant to support himself ? He is 23 years old .

  1. He should be able to get a student loan and a bursary. I am assuming you are England, so i don't know exactly who he would contact but in Scotland it's the SAAS - student awards agency for scotland.

  2. In Ireland he would qualify for a Mature Student grant at the age of 23.  If he lives here, get him to call to his County Council office ASAP as the closing date was officially 29 August, but if he gets his application in very fast, they may accept it anyway.

  3. maintenance grant probably, most people can get that one, most people think you have to have the maintenance loan to get the maintenance grant, but you dont.  search on www.studentfinance.gov, i think living by your self means your classed as independent and can be open to other funding, depends on the university.

  4. If he can produce evidence of being self supporting for 3 years and out of education he would be treated as being independent. P60's for 3 years would ideal or evidence of being in receipt of benefits.
