  1. In normal circumstances the hospital and doctors will file a claim with your insurance carrier. the insurance company will then send you an EOB, explanation of benefits. The EOB will show the charges, the insurance companies network discount, the amount the insurance company paid and the amount you owe. Then the hospital and doctors will send you a bill that should match the EOB. The bills do not match the EOB, you can call the doctors or just mail in the amount listed on the EOB. Never pay anything higher than the amount on the EOB. If the doctor tries to collect more call the insurance company they will straighten it out.
