  1. Definatly not. I played Volleyball in high school and, my first year I made Varsity. I'm only 5'3'' and yes height gives you an advantage but as long as you are dedicated and motivated; skills out weigh height in this sport.

  2. Height doesnt matter!!! I knew a varsiety volley ball player who was 4'10 and she was captain! If your a good team player you'll make the team!

    Best Wishes!!! ;)

  3. no wayy!! The only positon u have to be tall for is middle blocker, and u might never be put in the spot! Being short helps you move quicker and get down to the ball easier...im 5'2 and im doing good!

  4. no height does not matter in most sports it just is what the coaches see in you.

  5. Only if you plan on being a front row player. They need hieght to block the ball and spike it hard core. Smaller people are GREAT back row players!!! They dig up serves and everything...They are the main girls. You will not be judge by your height but by your skill and Atittude alone. Dont worry I am sure you will do fine. GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!!!!

  6. No!  Height most definitely does not really matter in Volleyball.

When I was in high school, we have had girls of all heights try out for Volleyball, and they all made the team.

You will not get eliminated because of your height.

Good Luck in High School and Volleyball!

  7. Not at ALL!!! I'm on club and I have a girl on my team thats 4'3 and she is our libero. All the rest of us are 4'9-5'1.

    Usually the shorter the quicker.

If they don't pick you because of your heigh, trust me you really didn't want to play on that team.

    Good Luck and Best Wishes!!!!!

  8. Not necessarily but it does give u an advantage

  9. NO

  10. Height? no! Powerful arms, yes!

  11. god no height is not a big factor in volleyball

  12. It's not likely that someone who is 5 ft will be a front row hitter, but shorter girls are often quicker on their feet playing defense, so I would just suggest maybe trying out as a DS/Libero type player.

  13. Height is important if you are playing in the front row as a hitter and blocker. Im 5' 7'' and i'm in the front row. But height doesn't matter that much if you play back row. Just try your best at try outs and believe in yourself. I see a lot of shorter people playing volleyball, they just don't play front row that often. HAVE FUN!!

  14. It depends on what position you are trying out for. If  you're going to want to spike the ball then you probably wont not because you can't hit but because they might need you to block. The only way i see around that is if you can jump fairly high. I would probably recomend back row or if your district allows be the lebaro.

  15. of course not!!!! I'm 5'1 and I set better than every player on my team.

  16. No if u hav great skills 4 vb and show alot of promise on the court then u are probly going 2b judged on your ability not on your height

  17. It depends on what position you want to play. If you want to do defense and u are good at it then u will probably make the team,

but if you are trying fro front row u probably wont make it.

  18. well no but it is deffenetly an advantage

  19. nope. just work your hardest. show them and prove them wrong that tall people are better at volleyball or have an advantage. a couple girls on my team are short (between 5' and 5'5'') and their amazing.

  20. i am 158 cm and i played vollyball good so the coach let me trained with him   there is nothing called impossible

  21. No, height is not everything when it comes to volleyball.  Sometimes height is helpful, but it isn't needed.  Some shorter players get stuck in the back row, but my advise to you is to work on your vertical jump.  You may want to practice jumping with ankle weights on, or if your school has a "verti-max" machine, utilize that.  If you have that, then you could beat out some of the girls that are taller than you.  It just depends on how much you put into to.  I coach volleyball, and I have a girl that is 6'1" and I have other shorter girls that I would put in the front row before her.  So I don't think you should worry about your height, worry about your skill.

  22. Short answer: YES & NO. As a 5'2 club player, I'd like to think no, and I personally believe that shorter players are better (more co-ordinated), and can even block if you jump high. The problem is, people don't see that. They seem to think tall people are better. Its a matter of discrimination, but you have to really perform for people to notice you. And they always need a libero, so they do need their quota of short people. Good luck!

  23. it depends on ur coach... and as long as u cam jump pretty high u should B ok... i hav the same problem im short and i hit and set so my coach said i can play up front as long as i can jump!!! good luck

  24. hello! people! height is a huge basis. but i don't think it will get you eliminated. but height is important in the sense of how high you can jump. if your a good jumper and can jump high than you'll be pretty much set. all you will have to do is build muscle and learn the techniques. but just because your shorter (i don't think that is that short) doesn't mean you won't get on the team. just show them your dedication and skills... but you definitely won't not get on the team becasue of your height

  25. Yes height matters.  It is ignorant to think it doesn't.  Obviously it matters more in certain positions.  The only place it may not matter is liebero.  At the level your playing it shouldn't hurt you as much.  But everyone should be a little realistic, look at national teams,  their huge.

  26. hey soulsistah! im exactly 5ft too and im also going to try out next yr in highschool! Im pretty sure that its not important as long as ur quick, strong and LOUD!!! work it!!! and be a good team playah!

  27. Height doesnt matter. if you can jump, hit the ball, serve, and pass you would make it on our varsity team. just give it your all and have fun and a good attitude on the sport. if you dont make ask if you can be the manager so your still part of the team because the coaches look at that

  28. in professional level u would be quickly eliminated probably cause height matters a lot in volleyball, even more than it does in basketball, but for high school level u have chances to get into the team if u are really good! good luck :-)

  29. As in most sports, height matters somewhat in Volleyball. Not a lot though. I'm 5'4 and play. A good vertical helps too...but as long as you can hit the ball over the net, you should make it! Good luck, I hope you make the team!

  30. No,

as long as your a great player and know how to play try out and give it all you got. :)

    Good Luck!!!
