  1. try backrow. ur just a tad short for frontrow

  2. omg no! my best friend is the fricken shortest girl ever im talking 4'9 4'10 and she is AMAZING at volleyball shes super good!!

  3. no...it depends if u can jump high...like if u wanted 2 b a spiker....u could if u jump high.....

  4. NO, it does not matter! just as long as you play good right? jump higher then! & btw, your just starting to play volleyball? its kinda too late to start playing because most likely all the girls on last years team already knows how to jump serve.

  5. no cuz in 7th grade i was one of the smallest volley ball players but all the coches loved me i was great. for us shorter people it has advantiges too, like we can get lower balls easier, we can dive faster cuz were closer to the ground, you can learn to  jump higher, and your a little faster than others.

  6. can you hit the ball straight?

    then you good!

    Luck :)

  7. Height of course, gives you an advantage, as without the height you have to work harder, or smarter to offset this.

I have noted that short people can play volleyball - and while it may seem that you can't effectively spike - you actually can, but you have to do everything right, to get the power.  In that I have seen a short guy do some awesome power spikes, through sheer atheleticism - he plays basketball too...

Anyway being smaller, you can move faster.  I think you should be able to spike, but just spike in your own way - and of course, your setter has to recognise this, giving you a set away (not too close to) from the net.  Obviously a blocker would have the advantage in blocking your spike - and so, you want to spike to your advantage, in which you can choose where the ball will cross over the net by your angle.

Definitely try this sport out, to see if you will love it?

It would help if you did a lot of practice with a cheap practice volleyball, such as spiking against a wall, and doing digs and sets to others who'd like to practice with you?  You can't do too much practice by yourself - whereas practising with friends (even if they're not into volleyball) - you can do a lot more.  Even if they throw (and catch) the ball at you - and you dig it, to them to catch...  The more practice you have, the better you will be. Just copy what you see on TV, by beach volleyball players, etc...

  8. hieght really does matter in volleyball no matter wat anyone says.  i know a libro who was on the first team all state last year in ohio and no colleges ever even lokked at him just because he was below 6foot. but in ur case u are still growing so right now hieght does not matter as much......and good luck!

  9. Height matters for different positions on the team. Usually if you are tall you will be a middle blocker or outside hitter, but I am not that tall but I can jump high so I am an outside hitter.

If your just starting out, familarize yourself with the basic volleyball elements: bumping, setting, spiking, serving. Pratice at home or with a friend to improve your skills. If you need any furthee help, please e-mail.

  10. Unfortunately height is pretty important in volleyball.

Especially in college. Even their liberos are around 5'10.

But as far as in high school, especially being a freshman, you might be able to play front row.

Just have a basic understanding of passing, serving, hitting, blocking and setting. Also you should know rotations and different plays.

You can look all of this up on google and get videos etc.

  11. i'm 5 ft and i play. but im going into 8th. but you would make a good passer. height sdoesn't matter at all. i have a friend who is 4'8 and she plays too. you would make a good passer, like i said.

  12. heights a big part in volleyball.

but if your that short no big deal be a libero. but if your whole team is really short like that you can play outside or something.

im 5'11 and a middle and my libero this last year was only 5'3

  13. yes

  14. height doesn't exactly matter, but it definitely helps. i know plenty of girls who play who are just as short as you who are amazing players. my only advice would be to practice as much as you can before try outs, because if you don't have any experience there's a greater chance you won't make it. good luck! =]

  15. It helps but like basketball you can still be a star if you are smaller.

  16. um. well @ my high school most every body has played but if you know you can pick up new things fast then go for it. If you 5'2/3 u probly cant be a hitter unless you can like jump 3 feet. You can be a setter but if you play a 5.1. (5 people one setter ) you have to play front row and help block. The best thing for you if to be a D.S thats a defensive specialist which is in the back row and passes the balls that go deep. so work on your passing skills. Good Luck!

  17. it help but you dont have to be

  18. sometimes height matters in volleyball.......but for me because i'm also a 5'3 person, height didn't matter for me.......we are almost the same but i started playing volleyball when i am in the elementary grade......in your first try in volleyball you must know how to serve and how to hit the ball correctly......because if you don't know how to hit a ball correctly, your team will possibly loss...but don't be destructed on your height just do what you can on tour first try on volleyball.....goodluck!!!!!!!!!

  19. NOT REAllY HiGHT IS GOOd BUt it dOESNT HURT YOU At All..YOU COULD BE A  GOOd SETTER..OR A GOOD SPiKER iF YOUR TALL MAYBE A GOOd BLOCK BUT PEOPLE ON MY VOllEYBAlL TEAM ARE All diFFRENT HEiGHTS

  20. I have a friend who is under 5 ft and she's on the volleyball team. She's good at passing, and serving. She spikes it to but not the normal way. She soetimes rolls the ball off her hand or just spikes up and over instead of down. If youre short just work on strenghthening your arms  fr more power and legs for a bigger jump. Good luck!
