  1. No. Numerous studies have been done on this subject and they all agree.

  2. Yeah, I don't know how much though. My car has to run on it and I get good gas mileage...plus it makes your car run alot more smoothly. Get octane booster and you will get even better gas mileage.

  3. NO IT does not at all , it burns hotter and faster and anyone who tells you it does is a fruitcake!

  4. No. Octane has nothing to do with mileage.

Your car is manufactured to run on a certain octane fuel. Most cars run on regular gas.

Generally, cars with higher performance have higher engine compression which requires higher octane to prevent early detonation (also called engine knock).

Check by your gas cap, there should be a sticker that say what gas to use.

If your car does not require premium gas, using it will not cause a problem, but it will be a waste of money.

  5. it depends on your car and if it needs high octane check your driver's manual. i drive a 1995 integra gsr that should only get premium fuel 91+ (high octane). anything less than that rating will mess with my ecu and i will get less gas mileage and a decrease in horsepower.

  6. Octane is related to the burn rate. depending on altitude and engine, you may be better with low octane.

  7. no, it just is better for your car.  To get better gas mileage, make sure car tires are inflated to specifications for your car, keep car tuned up, but the most important is SLOW DOWN.  55 mph on interstate saves on gas.

  8. No It gives you a few more horsepower, but not better gas mileage

  9. The octane rating is related to the resistance to self detonate, in other words, it will burn slower, and resist or self detonate at a higher pressure. High compression engines and forced induction engines (supercharged or turbocharged)  need this to prevent pre-ignition, which can damage internal parts of the engine.

If you use premium in an engine designed for regular, you may cause a build up of carbon, after which, your compression ratio will increase and actually cause pinging or preignition. This can also be caused by oil leaking and burning in the combustion chamber.

Usually an engine with a compression ratio of over 9.1:1 will require a better grade of fuel, also the amount of ignition advance can require more octane as the cylinder temperature will increase as timing is added.

  10. octane number 100 gives highest resistance to knocking.. so yeah.

    good luck finding 2, 2, 4 - trimethylpentane though:P

  11. No.  Myth.  It does nothing for your car unless your engine is built specifically to use that octane (for example, some sports cars).  Check your owner's manual to see what kind of gas is recommended for your engine.  All you do is throw money into your gas tank for nothing if you buy higher octanes than your car needs.

  12. No.  High Octane fuel has more non-combustible additives in it  than regular gas.  For most people, high octane is a needless expense and their vehicles run better on regular.

  13. The higher octane a fuel has, the more pure it is, so your engine will run cleaner and you will get slightly better gas mileage (maybe 1-2mpg). However, it's not enough to offset the cost of the premium gas...so if your car can take it, I would recommend still using unleaded. Premium gas tends to be reserved for higher-end cars that cannot use unleaded.

  14. no. it burns hotter for better performance. it also enhances the timeing on your car.

  15. no. the high octane fuel wastes more gas. street racers use this type of fuel to make the car faster. which its not true it just pump air into the engine. and it's also a waste of money because it cost a lot more then normal fuel.
