Does higher or lower precentage error mean you are close to the actual number?

For example if the percentage error of one problem was 15% and the other was 30% which one is closer to the actual answer? So is the higher number closer or the lower number?

  1. It depends, it only determines the errors possible within the extent, otherwise if those are the actual error in percentage therefore you can directly calculate the correction to get the actual value.


  2. say real answer is 100

    and wrong answer is 2

    the percentual error is then (100-2)/100 = 0.98 = 98 %

    if the answer is 90 then percentual error = (100-90)/100 = 0.10 = 10 %

    the higher the more wrong the answer is.
